Supreme court proceedings to be
streamed live
- The Supreme court said on Monday that it is ready to go live on camera while the government mooted for a separate TV channel for live-streaming court prceedings
- With the court proceedings being aired, litigants, law students and the public can watch them as they happen
- People from far flung places like Tamil Nadu and Kerela do not have to travel all the way to New Delhi for a day's hearing
- Attroney-General K.K. Venugopal proposed a separate channel like Rajya Sabha TV and the Lok Sabha TV
- Mr. Venugopal, however expressed reservations about live-streaming of cases involving national security concerns, matrimonial disputes and rape cases
- A public viewing of marital dispute and rape case proceedings would seriously affect justice and amount to violation of the right to privacy
- In a bid to improve the rankings of the Indian institutes globally, the Human Resource Development Ministry on Monday announced the name of six universities which have been selected for the Institute of Eminence status. Out of six, three are in the public sector and the remaining in the private sector.
- HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on Monday tweeted, “The Institute of Eminence are important for the country. We have 800 universities, but not a single university in top 100 or even 200 in the world ranking. Today’s decision will help achieve this.'

- A committee under former Chieft Election Commissioner N. Gopalaswami recommended these institutions
- The six institutes are
- Indian Institute of Science(IISc) Banglore
- IIT - Delhi
- IIT - Madras
- BITS Pilani
- Manipal
- Jio Institute
- Flexibility in fixing curricula and syllabi
- Can admit 30% foreign students, with no fees restriction
- Will be free from the regulations of the AICTE, the UGC or the HECI
- Starting 2019, aspirants will be able to take JEE and NEET exam twice a year
- Students can appear for JEE Mains in January and April and NEET in February and May
- The exam will be conducted by newly formed National Test Agency
Thai cave operation successful
- All 12 boys and their 25 year old coach have been rescued
- The operation lasted for 17 days
- Three navy seals and a doctor, who had been with the boys, emerged safely from the cave several hours later.
- The news has been greeted by global jubilation and the rescue workers have been lauded by world leaders
- Fifa has confirmed that the rescued boys will not be able to attend the World Cup final on Sunday as previously hoped.
