Simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections
US - China trade war
- Law commission of India has put forward a proposal for simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections
- Law commission is chaired by Justice B.S. Chauhan
- 9 parties opposed the proposal
- BJP supports the idea and will submit a detailed report
- Congress to consult with its allies and reply to law comission
- Telangana Rashtra Samiti(TRS) and Samajwadi party(SP) supported the Idea
- 5 people from Solapur's Mangalvedhe tehsil were beaten to death in the tribal hamlet of Rainpada on July 1 by mob of 4000 on the suspicion of being child-lifters
- CM Devendra Fadnavis has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the kin of each victim
- Superintendent of Police(cyber cell) Balsing Rajout has warned that anyone found spreading rumours on social media will be severely punished
- If found in lynching case, the person will be charged under IPC section 302 for murder
- 12 boys aged between 11- 16 and their 25 year old coach were trapped in Tham Luang cave in Doi Nang Non mountain range in northern Thailand during heavy rains after football practice
- They are being right now rescued by several rescue teams
- The operation is lead by Narongsak Osottanakorn
- 6 boys have been rescued till now
- Thai and Navy seals are also part of the operation
US - China trade war
- Both US and China have implemented a tariff of 25% on imports worth $34 billion last friday
- This marks the official beginning of trade war between US and China
- US President Donald Trump began the year by imposing ban on solar panels and washing machines has decided to tax all Chinese products which amount to $500 billion to stick to his America first promise
- China also taxed American products like soyabean and automobiles, a move that can cause job losses for lot of Americans
- Other Major US trading partners like European Union, Mexico and Canada have also imposed tariffs on various US products
- Six global aircraft manufacturers have responded to a Request for Information(RFI) from the Indian Air Force to supply 110 fighter aircraft
- The bid is for Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) which was cancelled in 2015
- Of the six bids Lockheed F-16 and SAAB Gripen are single engine fighters, while Boeing F-18, Dassault Rafale, and Eurofighter Typhoon and United Aircraft Corporation Mig-35 are twin-engine ones
- The bids will be evaluated after which IAF will issue request for proposal(RFP) with exact specification of the aircraft by next year
- 85% of the aircraft's will have to be built in India under Make in India scheme with a Strategic partner/Indian Production Agency
- The entire cost would be around $15 billion
